CRA HAS BECOME A TRUSTED SPEAKER ON DISCORD

December 27, 2023

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has become a trusted speaker on the social network Discord. Internet users can contact the CRA’s Clean Internet Hotline to report prohibited content or activities on the social network.

“Our reports will be dealt with on an urgent basis, but the information will be assessed in accordance with Discord’s security policy and community rules,” says Irma Kazlienė, the Head of the CRA’s Digital Services Regulatory Group.

Discord prohibits child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sexual grooming of minors, hate speech, violent, self-harmful and suicidal content, etc.

CRA experts will contact the social network after receiving reports submitted by users, in accordance with established procedures, to ensure that the information is removed as soon as possible. Discord undertakes to investigate CRA reports as a matter of urgency.

“This is the result of a collaboration between INHOPE, the international association of internet hotlines, and Discord. We are also trusted speakers on Youtube, TikTok and Google,” says I. Kazlienė.

The CRA Internet Hotline receives several hundred reports of potentially illegal content every month. The majority of all reports contain images of child sexual abuse.

“When investigating reports, we cooperate with other Internet hotlines, Internet service providers, website owners, social network managers, as well as with the Police Department and the Office of the Inspector of Journalists’ Ethics, to which we promptly forward reports if the content has been posted on Lithuanian service stations,” says I. Kazlienė, the Head of the CRA’s Digital Services Regulatory Group.
