The European Commission is conducting the open public consultation on revising the eIDAS Regulation.

August 11, 2020

With the adoption of the eIDAS Regulation in 2014, the EU broke new ground globally by introducing a first cross-border framework for trusted digital identities and the so-called trust services such as electronic signatures that can be used to sign documents in the online world in the same way as signing with a pen in the offline world.

The Commission will consider revising the eIDAS Regulation to improve its effectiveness, extend its benefits to the private sector and promote trusted digital identities for all Europeans. The aim of this public consultation is to collect feedback on drivers and barriers to the development and uptake of eID and trust services in Europe and on the impacts of the options for delivering an EU digital identity.

The open public consultation targets European citizens and end-users as well as companies directly impacted by the eIDAS Regulation (e.g. trust service providers, identity providers), competent authorities in the Member States, international organisations and other concerned stakeholders.

The consultation is open from 24 July 2020 to 02 October 2020.

You can contribute to this consultation by filling in the online questionnaire https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/better-regulation/have-your-say/initiatives/12528-European-Digital-Identity-EUid-/public-consultation.
