Guidelines for broadband communication development introduced in Georgia

On 15 April 2019, during the Twinning conference in Tbilisi (Georgia), experts of the RRT and the Polish electronic communications regulator UKE introduced and discussed the guidelines for the development of broadband communication in Georgia prepared by Lithuanian, Polish and German experts.

RRT representatives introduced to Georgian colleagues and market participants the guidelines for broadband communication development in Georgia based on the good practice of EU member states of Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and Croatia. They deal with 10 different aspects of broadband communication development:

  • construction of broadband communication infrastructure;
  • general construction and common use;
  • mapping of broadband communication;
  • models of state aid to broadband communication development;
  • establishment of an internet exchange point;
  • practical implementation of the open internet provisions;
  • establishment of 5G networks;
  • assessment of wireless broadband communication network coverage;
  • assessment of radio communication equipment compliance and supply to the market;
  • physical infrastructure of buildings intended for broadband communication.

This conference was organised by the RRT as the senior partner in implementing the Twinning project GE/15/ENI/TE/01/16 (GE/27) “Supporting the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) in developing of its electronic communications regulatory framework and operational capacities in line with EU regulatory framework. Implementation of the project has been foreseen until the middle of 2019.
