RRT announces an auction for the right to use radio frequencies in the 3400-3700 MHz radio frequency band

April 1, 2022

The Communications Regulatory Authority of the Republic of Lithuania (RRT) has announced an auction for the right to use radio frequencies (channels) in the 3400-3700 MHz radio frequency band. This is another radio frequency band that will be used for the deployment of next-generation 5G mobile networks and 5G electronic communications services in the Republic of Lithuania.

“5G auctions in Lithuania are gaining momentum. Due to the complicated international situation, the prospects for the use of this radio frequency band in Lithuania are really difficult, but we hope that the winners of the auction, with the help of RRT specialists, will find the best way to use this radio frequency band in the most efficient way. We believe that there is no point in waiting and that we have to act in the conditions we have,” said Feliksas Dobrovolskis, Director of RRT

Key auction conditions:

The auction will offer three 100 MHz radio frequency blocks.

– A bidder will only be able to bid for one block of radio frequencies during the auction.

The starting price for the right to use one radio frequency block is EUR 3 million.

– The term of use of the radio frequency blocks is 20 years from the date of issue of the relevant authorisation.

The successful bidders will be required to:

  • provide 5G services in at least one city from 2023;
  • deploy 5G networks in major cities from 2024;
  • deploy 5G networks in all towns and compact built-up areas from 2030;
  • enable all households to connect to 100 Mbps stations from 2025.

The auction is open to all market players, both existing and potential. The proceeds of the auction will go to the state budget.
