Technical issues on using radio frequencies coordinated during negotiations in Minsk

June 21, 2019

On 18-20 June 2019, in Minsk, negotiations on radio frequency coordination issues took place between the RRT and technical experts of the State Supervisory Department for Telecommunications of the Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus. Perspectives of further use of different radio frequency bands were discussed, also agreements on the technical conditions to be applied in using the 470–694 MHz and 3400–3800 MHz radio frequency bands in the territory of Lithuania and Belarus were signed.

In the context of preparation for 5G radio communication development in the 700 MHz and 3400–3800 MHz radio frequency bands, it is necessary to determine the conditions of using these radio frequency bands in the border territories and to free up the 700 MHz radio frequency band from ground television broadcasting services, i.e. to re-plan the radio frequencies used for ground television broadcasting in both states. Belarus is ready to perform such re-planning in the 700 MHz radio frequency band by 2023, however also earlier possibilities of freeing up this radio frequency band are considered.
